My Scouting Experience in Katunguru

By

Akandwanaho Derrick (Primary Five)

On Thursday 17th June we left for a scouting camp. The camp was in Katunguru near Kazinga Channel.

On arrival we started slashing and cleaning up the place. We went to Kazinga Channel later to fetch some water for use. In the evening we organized the tents to sleep in and “constructed” a kitchen.

The next day we woke up early in the morning and I helped in preparing breakfast. We later built a canteen and a chapel. During the day our Rector visited us at the camp and brought us meat which made our lunch wonderful.

On the night of June 19th, when everyone was asleep, a buffalo attacked us. We all started running and left the animal tearing our tents. Later in the day, the game rangers came and helped to kill it. The Rector returned to see how the buffalo had destroyed our tents. We took photos and were happy.

In the evening we went for the closing ceremony at the camp fire and they read the results. We were excited to be in the second position although we felt we should have come first. However we shall all be going for the national competitions in Kazi, Kampala.

I thank God who protected us, especially from the buffalo attack, all through the camping experience.
